President's Message

In 2011, the Newport News FOP Lodge and our Associates contributed over $5,000 to charities, youth programs, law enforcement support groups and the families of fallen officers. We spent over $5,000 on our Annual Shop with a Cop for children in need and victims of crime in the Hampton Roads area.

This year, everyone had a rough year financially. The economy made things difficult on everyone. Even so, our community stepped up and gave what they could in an effort to help us with the funding  we needed to continue to support our numerous causes. We wern't able to donate as much as we have in the past to our favorite charities, but we were still able to donate.  Since we don't have the manpower to do our own solicitations, we had to find a company to assist with our fundraising and so far they are doing a good job for us. As usual, our membership stepped up and helped us endure!

One of the greatest feelings in the world is to see our efforts and financial support brighten the lives of others. In 2011 alone, we held fundraisers for or gave contributions to the following:
Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters
Special Olympics of Virginia
American Red Cross
Easter Seals
Angel Flight

In addition, the Lodge supports families of law enforcement, community members, and friends in the greater Peninsula area.  We have one of the best Associate Lodges in the area. This past year, our Associates held dinners for Newport News Police Academy recruits and their families, a Police Memorial Week breakfast and organized various social functions for Lodge members. One of our biggest hits is our annual Halloween Party. We held a 50s style Sock Hop this year that was a lot of fun for everyone that came by!

In 2012, I would like to continue our focus on family. We  will continue to organize more events so our officers, their spouses and their children will be able to benefit from all the F.O.P. has to offer. In an effort to provide our police family with some family fun for members of all ages, we will utilize the lodge as well as other locations to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere for the entire family.  I ask everyone to visit our site often and stay safe through 2012! We are looking into sponsoring a Wounded Warrior meal sometime this summer. Check back for further details as the summer rolls around!

The Fop Cops and Kids went very well as usual. Our many thanks to Walmart and all of those who helped make this another successful Christmas shopping experience for the children selected. Best wishes to everyone in the coming new year!
